Rev. Karin Hall-Willis C.Ht. RMTKarin Hall-Willis is a certified hypnotherapist based in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her business is centered around helping people by using hypnosis. Areas of expertise include stress reduction, study habits/exam anxiety, weight reduction, smoking cessation, and past-life regression. Karin has worked in many other areas and encourages those who would like to make a positive change in their lives to consider hypnosis, where the mind can create big changes in a short time span. What is Hypnosis...Hypnosis has been around for for as long as mankind, but most people have little understanding of this potentially life changing process. Everyone has experienced hypnosis in one form during their lifetimes. When you are driving and can't remember the past few miles, when you are watching a movie and are so taken in that all outside influences fade into nothingness, when you are so captivated by a speaker (teacher, preacher, politician, or actor) that you lose track of time, when the stresses of the day leave you feeling dazed and out of it, these are all forms of hypnosis. Just about everyone has seen some kind of stage hypnotist who makes his audience do strange things. Either that or they have seen a movie where there is a middle aged man swinging a watch back and forth in front of the eyes to hypnotize a person. Hypnosis is regaining some of popularity from the past, and it has been featured in a number of television shows and movies in the past few years: "Shallow Hal", "The Blood of Dracula", "Somewhere in Time", "Bell, Book, and Candle", Road to Rio", "Stir of Echoes", "On a Clear Day you can See Forever", and most recently NCIS in May 2008. Of course, most of what you see in the movies is not real. It has been sensationalized for the camera and should not be regarded as a "serious" scientific method. However, people are still fascinated by the wonders of hypnosis. It is often that thrill of the unknown combined with the possibility of personal gain that draws us in. I think that most of us would agree that mankind has yet to fully explore the mind and unlock the full potential that we have as individuals. We only use about 12% of our minds on a daily basis with the unconscious mind taking up the other 88%. Books like "The Secret" and the movie "What the Bleep do we Know" have brought to light the potential of your own mind: how the mind creates in reality what it first experiences as thought. Hypnosis is a tool, which can unlock the potential of that unconscious mind and aid you in creating the life that you would like for yourself.Professional hypnotherapists have guidelines that they have to follow which are outlined in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, which is published by the Department of Labor. We do not treat medical conditions unless referred by a licensed physician, and we do not treat psychiatric disorders unless, once again, referred by a licensed medical professional. We can, however, use hypnosis in a wide range of cases to improve the lives of people everywhere.
