What is Hypnosis...
Hypnosis has been around for for as long as
mankind,
but most people have little understanding of this potentially life
changing process. Everyone has experienced hypnosis in one form
during their lifetimes. When you are driving and can't remember
the past few miles, when you are watching a movie and are so taken in
that all outside influences fade into nothingness, when you are so
captivated by a speaker (teacher, preacher, politician, or actor) that
you lose track of time, when the stresses of the day leave you feeling
dazed and out of it, these are all forms of hypnosis.
Just about
everyone has seen some kind of stage hypnotist who makes his audience do
strange things. Either that or they have seen a movie where there is a
middle aged man swinging a watch back and forth in front of the eyes to
hypnotize a person. Hypnosis is regaining some of popularity from
the past, and it has been featured in a number of television shows and
movies in the past few years: "Shallow Hal", "The Blood of Dracula",
"Somewhere in Time", "Bell, Book, and Candle", Road to Rio", "Stir of
Echoes", "On a Clear Day you can See Forever", and most recently NCIS in
May 2008. Of course, most of what you see in the movies is
not real. It has been sensationalized for the camera and should
not be regarded as a "serious" scientific method. However, people are
still fascinated by the wonders of hypnosis. It is often that thrill of
the unknown combined with the possibility of personal gain that draws us
in.
I think
that most of us would agree that mankind has yet to fully explore the
mind and unlock the full potential that we have as individuals. We only
use about 12% of our minds on a daily basis with the unconscious mind
taking up the other 88%. Books like "The Secret" and the movie
"What the Bleep do we Know" have brought to light the potential of your
own mind: how the mind creates in reality what it first experiences as
thought.
Hypnosis
is a tool, which can unlock the potential of that unconscious mind and
aid you in creating the life that you would like for yourself.
Professional hypnotherapists have guidelines
that they have to follow which are outlined in the Dictionary of
Occupational Titles, which is published by the Department of Labor.
We do not treat medical conditions unless referred by a licensed
physician, and we do not treat psychiatric disorders unless, once again,
referred by a licensed medical professional. We can, however, use
hypnosis in a wide range of cases to improve the lives of people
everywhere.
How can I help You?
By accessing the unconscious mind, hypnosis can be used to benefit any individual. Below are
some examples of how hypnosis can be used to improve life in
specific areas:

What often stops people from exploring
hypnosis more fully are some common myths.
Under hypnosis I will bark like a dog...
Be assured that under hypnosis, you will
be conscious of all that is being said to you, and you have the
ability to reject what is being said also. I know I will
probably upset a couple of people by saying that stage
hypnotists look for a certain type of person when they ask for
volunteers from the audience and know who is the secret
exhibitionist in the bunch, the one who secretly craves the
attention and wants to be free from restraints. You
cannot be made to do anything at all that you do not wish to do.
The fear of being stuck in hypnosis
There are people who spend a lot of time in a hypnotic state
due to excess stress and people who exist in the
primitive "fight/flight" modality. This state is
self-induced. When life allows, they will regain normal
alertness. Hypnosis clients are taken out of hypnosis at
the end of a session. If something extraordinary prevented
a hypnotherapist from bringing a client back to full alertness,
the client
would naturally fall asleep and on awakening would once again
regain normal everyday alertness.
Hypnosis only works on the weak minded
Everyone can be hypnotized. These are certain
characteristics that make some people easier to hypnotize than
others. Until the past 15 years or so, hypnosis had been hit and miss with only about a 50% success rate. The
success or failure of hypnosis up until that point relied
heavily on the emotional character of a person and not the
intelligence of that person. Deeper understanding of the
human mind has led to a far greater success rate, reaching up
into the 90% range.
Hypnosis is of the Devil/Evil/unnatural
Hypnosis is a natural state that we have all experienced at
some time or another. It can be used as a wonderful tool
for self-improvement and certainly can bring out the very best
in a person, whether that is fulfilling a goal, performing to
full potential, being able to open up to more positive
relationships, create better health or overcome a bad habit or a
fear. Hypnosis is, in my opinion, something that everyone
could benefit from in some way or another--it can even be used
to find a stronger spiritual connection with God. |
