Reiki

Reiki is a form of healing energy which originated in Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui. There are so many origination stories out there, it is unclear to me where the truth lies. I learned a wonderful fairytale like story of its history when I learned Reiki and that is the one that I share with my students, however, the timeline below is verifiable on the more recent history.

It was kept in Japan until Dr. Chujiro Hayashi met Dr. Usui in about 1925 and began to study with him. As Dr. Usui neared his death in 1930 he named Dr. Hayashi his successor. Reiki stayed in Japan until an American woman, daughter of Japanese immigrant parents, persuaded Dr. Hayashi to pass Reiki to her. She fought hard and eventually became Reiki Master in 1938. In 1941 during the second world war Mrs. Takata became Dr. Hayashi's successor and so Reiki entered the US.

Since the time of Mrs. Takata Reiki has almost become a household word, and it is not unusual to bring it up in conversation and have people know what you are talking about. Reiki has spread throughout the world and is now accessible by a growing number of people daily.

Reiki uses The Universal Life Force Energy found in all things. This energy is channeled through the practitioner to the patient. Because the Universal energy is infinite and abundant Reiki never depletes personal energy. It also heals on multiple levels of our being, not just the physical, but the emotional and spiritual bodies are healed with Reiki.

Reiki can be used to heal more than just people. Because all things contain the Universal Life Force Energy, all things can benefit from its application including animals, plants, trees, and even places. Spiritual cleansing can definitely benefit from adding Reiki and the negative energies of places associated with pain and suffering can be alleviated. Natural disasters cause great devastation and can also be helped with the use of Reiki.
